A blue Flag beach

The Blue Flag has flown over the beach of the Radžu reservoir for 3 years in a row already. Being the world’s most popular method of tourism ecology certification, it has gained much renown amongst residents and is recognised both by municipal and environmental authorities. The Radžu reservoir swimming area in Jēkabpils is one of the ten places in Latvia marked with the Blue Flag. It complies with all the quality criteria for public beaches and meets all the requirements necessary in order to be granted the Blue Flag. The Blue Flag criteria are divided into four groups – environmental education and information, water quality, maintenance and service, and safety. Each year public beaches apply for the Blue Flag, which is assessed by the national, and then international jury. In order to obtain the Blue Flag, a beach must meet 29 criteria.
